You are enough.
.
Really simple message today. Whoever you are, wherever you are, whatever you're doing, is enough. Today healing comes from remembering this.
Daily Tarot: 7 of Wands
When make a case for something, we have to believe in it. We have to align our words and actions with our energy. When our energy doesn't match what we say or do, people can tell. If you don't believe what you say, neither will anyone else.
.
Have you ever heard someone speak, and even though they play the part well, you just don't buy it? Or when someone is totally authentic, we see that, too. That's the 7 of Wands at play - how well someone's actions match their energy. When they don't match, it's often because someone is trying really hard to convince you of something, and that sets off your bullshit detector. (Hello, this is why there are negative stereotypes about lawyers, actors, and politicians!)
.
This card is making me think of McCain's speech. I personally don't buy it. I don't think that rehashing it more here will serve anyone, but it's a good example of this energy.
.
So with this invitation for today, we learn what it means for us to speak and act in alignment with truth, and we also learn how it looks when people are purposely acting out of alignment. We don't have to buy it. What you can do, when you notice that misalignment in someone else, is make extra sure you're saying what YOU believe and then acting on it. You take care of you. You're the only person in the world you can control.
.
I love all of you. This continuing healthcare bullshit is really hard to handle. Please don't give up hope-- not that a bunch of rich old white men will do anything for us, but that we will find new and very old ways of taking care of each other. ❤️ I'm here if you need me, and I'm grateful you're here, too.
Daily Tarot: 4 of Discs
I was thinking about grounding a lot yesterday (like ya do), and pulling the 4 of Discs is the perfect time to talk about it, because this card invites us to get grounded.
.
If you ground your energy consciously already, awesome. Do that extra today. If you're like, wait what? - read on for a quick Grounding 101.
.
Grounding connects your energy with the earth, steadies you so other people's energy doesn't impinge on yours, and recharges you. It does a lot more than this, too, but I think it's important to try it and see what it does for you personally, rather than just reading. If you learn one energy practice, make it this one.
.
Here's my favorite grounding method: I imagine roots running from my body deep into the earth. I feel these roots keeping me balanced and steady, and I feel my energy travel through my body, through my roots and into the earth. The earth filters my energy and composts anything I don't need, like frustrations, old patterns, fear. Then fresh energy flows back through my roots into my body, and I thank the earth for her help.
.
I like this method because I don't need any tools, and I can root down in a few seconds while on the subway, or take my time at home. It's the foundation of my energy work. I ground myself throughout the day, especially before working with clients. I also incorporate grounding practices into my services, to help clients feel calm and present and get the most out of our work. Of all the practices out there, this is the one that's made the biggest difference for me on a daily basis, so I hope it serves you, too!
.
There are a lot of variations of grounding methods, so poke around, try some out and see what works for you. You might even realize that you already do some things automatically that ground you. Does anyone have a grounding practice or tool that they love? (If you want to nerd out about visualizations and trees and crystals I am Here For It.)
Daily Tarot: The Magician
In case you forgot, and we all do sometimes, you are a powerful magical being with the ability to channel ideas from the ether and into physical existence.
I certainly forgot this today, and got into a place of maybe-I-can't. We truly always have the Magician's creative power inside us, even when we feel like we don't. Sometimes a card pops up because we need its medicine, and we have to do a little work to meet it.
This is a good time to get lots of ideas down, even if they're rough. No judging yourself, just putting pen to paper. There's a potential waiting to become real, and you're invited to be the channel. That's the Magician's real work: showing up to the altar, picking up the tools, giving form to whatever comes through.
Daily Tarot: The Star
Today, healing comes in the form of water. A gentle cleansing reset after a busy week. (Anyone else have a week that felt a month long?)
It rained in Brooklyn this morning, soft and misty at first, then a deluge. Now the sun is out, and the whole energy of the day is different. The people I pass on the street are walking with their heads up, acknowledging each other with smiles or nods. The plants are greener, birds singing. It all feels lighter.
This is the energy of the Star, cleansing stress and trauma and reacquainting us with peace, joy, and life.
Today we're invited to let water cleanse and refresh us, whether that's drinking fresh water, swimming, taking a bath, or watching the rain. Water is physically calming and cleansing, and it works that way in our energy, too. It's one of the simplest and most effective ways of clearing. If anything is bothering you, give it to the water, and envision stress rinsing away. You'll feel lighter and clearer afterward.
Happy Friday, hope you all get to relax this weekend.
I literally just filled my bathtub, but felt drawn to pull a card for all of us first. I'm listening, universe!
Independence Day : The Chariot
Success is a container we build out of beliefs and priorities we receive from outside sources and the approval we seek outside ourselves. We work so hard to check off all the boxes for a "successful" life: home, job, money, partner, degree, possessions. But once we have this container of success, built on outside approval, and achievement, we realize it is empty. A perfect-on-paper life, lived without awareness of our soul, leaves us deeply unhappy. And our unhappiness is what often sparks our desire to search for truth and meaning. It's the feeling of, "I have all of this stuff, but I'm still not satisfied. There must be something more to life."
This is the call of The Chariot, to step away from the societal ideas of success, and connect with our soul. Today we're asked to tune into our soul's purpose: what do you truly desire to bring into the world? Let that desire lead you. The Chariot can be a vehicle for our soul's purpose rather than the ego's desire to find outer success. The invitation here is to harness our ambition and drive so it can be in service of our soul's work. In the Motherpeace image of the Chariot, the Amazon warrior on her soul's quest, is rewarded with an apple from the Goddess. When you are working from your soul, you can feel it. You may receive tokens that confirm you are on the right path. Reflect on ways that you've gotten confirmations that you're where you need to be. When have you put your drive behind your soul work, and things have just fallen into place, or you've found just the right person or idea at the right time? You're being asked to move forward based on your own internal guidance, and trust that you already have all you need to start doing your soul's work now.
It's not lost on me that this incredibly powerful card came up on the 4th of July! We are taught so well in this country to seek guidelines and approval outside of ourselves, and to practice "American" beliefs and behaviors. How often do we do things because we're told to, or we think other people expect it, or because that's how it's always been done? True independence is listening to your own soul, not just being able to do or buy whatever you want. I have a lot of complicated feelings about the United States, I'm sure we all do. We can't celebrate freedom and idealism without facing the fact that real people are suffering and dying in this country and abroad -- all to keep the white supremacist cis-het vaguely-christian misogynist state in power. These people are just as real and alive as you are, and are just as worthy of living.
Today, remember that patriotism is another way of creating an arbitrary "us vs them," and that dichotomy is one of the threads holding the idea of this country together. We can honor our history, and take action to change the present. As we tap into our personal soul work today, let us all remember that we are all humans, all connected, no matter where we live. Each of us is here at this time to dissolve separation, and serve the collective. We are independent and intertwined.
If you can today, please donate to the ACLU, PP, SPLC, or any local organizations doing good work. May all people everywhere be happy and free.
Mind Body Spirit + Advice
Sometimes you don't have to know why something happens, you just have to trust that it's part of the process. Keep moving, keep working, it'll make sense in time.
Mind: The Fool
There is literally no impediment to taking big chances in your thoughts. None! So what are you waiting for? What seems too big to even dream about? What would you really, truly love to make happen, that you're still a little bit afraid of actually doing? Take your wildest dreams, and crank them up a billion percent. This leap in your mind will prepare you to make the leap in your life. Right now, you're invited to imagine and envision the end result.
Body: The Chariot
Move that body, feel at home in it. Keep it strong and healthy. But while you're doing all of this, remember that a body is also a one-way ticket. You're never going to be able to escape or reverse aging, no matter how many fancy creams you buy, or how many probiotics you eat. Can you love your body as it is right now, and as it's aging? Can you be really present in the daily processes of your body? Your body is your vessel, and it also IS you. Take some time to really be in your body and feel its potential. If you can run, run. If you can breathe, breathe.
Spirit: 3 of Swords
Everything that comes to you is a spiritual lesson. Even if it's a fight or heartbreak, or just getting your hackles up about the barista running out of change when you're already late for work. See if you can hold those daily grievances with love, rather than feeding them to the fire of an old trauma. For instance, when somebody talks over you, and that triggers feelings about your worth and your parents. Can you notice when that happens, and your response to it? These daily irritations scratch the surface so you can find the bigger underlying wounds, and start healing them.
Advice: 7 of Pentacles
This card has been coming up a lot over the past few months, for me and for others. Gotta do the work, put in the hours. Show up every day, do your best, check one more day off the calendar. You build mastery through consistency. You build consistency one day at a time. We are being asked to take all of the advice of the three previous cards, and put those actions into our day-to-day life. Imagination, grounding in our bodies, gentle self-healing. Take those threads and weave with them.
New Moon in Cancer
[This is part of my monthly reading for myself, that I felt I had to share. It ties in so much with the energy of this moon. Hope it helps you. ❤️🌑🦀] Strength in vulnerability, that is your natural state. Allowing yourself to be open and gentle and in that natural state is your power, and it's what allows you to connect with other people and help them heal. You don't have to "master" yourself by tamping down your emotions to get there, just take a minute to get calm and centered, and you can tap into that state any time. You can just be in the flow of it.
Vulnerability is a powerful form of self care. It's saying, I accept myself completely, and there is no possible reaction anyone else could have that would shake my love for myself. I trust myself so completely that I don't need to seek outside validation, I simply offer what I have. When you release your expectations for any particular outcome, you allow yourself to say yes, take chances, make mistakes. You do something because it feels in alignment for you, not because you're trying to control circumstances or people.
Vulnerability doesn't mean that other people will be able to hurt you or manipulate you. In fact, it makes you pretty much immune to bullshit because you're putting your whole self out there, with no shame or vanity for anyone to play on. Rather than opening yourself to harm, you'll be opening the way for other people to find their own way to healing. People will think, why is she happy and calm and unfuckwithable? How do I get that way, too? And after all, aren't you this way because you saw someone else's happy, calm, aligned example, and thought, I want to live that way, too? It's possible for everyone. This is our natural state.
Brave Communication
Brave communication: The Son of Swords brings double air energy, thinking about thought processes, talking about ideas. Metacognition. And here, it's grounded by Strength. That means all this communication is about the real, deep truths about who you are, not a frivolous chat or shooting the breeze. This is the time to say what's real, to put your true thoughts out in the open, and to practice what you preach.
Here's the thing, though. These are both warrior cards in their own ways. It's hard to come out of hiding, and you'll have to draw on your inner strength to carry through. You'll be clearing the air but it may not feel great, and people may not be ready to hear you. Again this is where you tap into your strength, and know that you won't get anywhere by forcing your point. The other side of Strength is gentleness. There's no benefit in being confrontational just as there's no benefit in sugar coating anything. Just trust your timing, and trust yourself.
