Guest message from the universe today, in the form of a found card. Seahorse reminds us to go at our own pace, and to respect the flow of our lives. We don't need to chase anything down, what's meant for us will come to us at the right time. Patience, presence and gentleness today, friends.
.
Today is the New Moon in Leo and we're kicking off eclipse season. If you want to read more about the astrology of this, @chaninicholas has written a beautiful post about the new moon and is offering a course in the eclipses. 🌙
Daily Tarot: 7 of Cups
Sometimes life is so full of magic and mystery and everything sounds exciting and you don't know where to start.
.
But sometimes (like when you pull the 7 of Cups) all the exciting things catching your attention are in fact distractions from the one thing you actually need to pursue.
When that happens, you're using this fun stuff to avoid doing some inner work. The first thing I find myself doing when I'm avoiding some inner work, is pursuing some metaphysical study. Sometimes that's what I actually need to do, but when I'm reading up on Mayan astrology because I don't want to deal with my feelings, then I'm not doing justice to the study or myself.
When this happens, all you need to do is be gentle, and see what you're avoiding. Because that's where your attention is best spent.
In tarot, the 7s speak of times that an outer experience seems to be going on, but all the action is really on the inside.
So just bring it close in today. You can still go for all of those exciting ideas, just be sure you're choosing them consciously rather than as an escape.
.

Leo Season
Hello yes I'm very glad it's lion time.
Mostly because it's my sign but also because the last month has been a doozy and I'm ready to take what I learned in the Cancer feelings tidepools, and bring it into the light.
Fellow Leos, let's get @scottsyoung zodiac shirts from @psychicsister the second they're announced and have a party where we tell all of our friends how awesome they are. (All signs are invited, there's enough party for everyone!)
Daily Tarot: 6 of Cups
Happy Friday and happy last day of Cancer season!
.
Today's card is about sweet open-hearted sharing, and it calls us back to our childhood self.
.
Remember how you were as a little kid, before you were taught about competition, hiding your feelings, and worrying what other people think. Can you catch a glimpse of that younger self? That's who we're focusing on today.
.
This card naturally ties in with nostalgia, but its message is for the present moment. We can have sweetness and innocence in our relationships as adults. We can be open and trusting. We can reach out to a potential friend or even a passing stranger and say, I like you. I like your work, or those shoes, or that you held open the bodega door. Making friends comes easier to children because we use that skill more as children. It's a skill that we can re-develop with practice.
.
Today, let your inner child decide what kind of connection sounds fun, and if they want to make new friends or reach out to old friends or play in a group environment, that's what you do. Have fun with it!
.
Special shoutout to my cousin/twin/bff since birth, @yvonnemuthard. I love you! 💕

Daily Tarot: 4 of Discs
I was thinking about grounding a lot yesterday (like ya do), and pulling the 4 of Discs is the perfect time to talk about it, because this card invites us to get grounded.
.
If you ground your energy consciously already, awesome. Do that extra today. If you're like, wait what? - read on for a quick Grounding 101.
.
Grounding connects your energy with the earth, steadies you so other people's energy doesn't impinge on yours, and recharges you. It does a lot more than this, too, but I think it's important to try it and see what it does for you personally, rather than just reading. If you learn one energy practice, make it this one.
.
Here's my favorite grounding method: I imagine roots running from my body deep into the earth. I feel these roots keeping me balanced and steady, and I feel my energy travel through my body, through my roots and into the earth. The earth filters my energy and composts anything I don't need, like frustrations, old patterns, fear. Then fresh energy flows back through my roots into my body, and I thank the earth for her help.
.
I like this method because I don't need any tools, and I can root down in a few seconds while on the subway, or take my time at home. It's the foundation of my energy work. I ground myself throughout the day, especially before working with clients. I also incorporate grounding practices into my services, to help clients feel calm and present and get the most out of our work. Of all the practices out there, this is the one that's made the biggest difference for me on a daily basis, so I hope it serves you, too!
.
There are a lot of variations of grounding methods, so poke around, try some out and see what works for you. You might even realize that you already do some things automatically that ground you. Does anyone have a grounding practice or tool that they love? (If you want to nerd out about visualizations and trees and crystals I am Here For It.)
Daily Tarot: The Star
Today, healing comes in the form of water. A gentle cleansing reset after a busy week. (Anyone else have a week that felt a month long?)
It rained in Brooklyn this morning, soft and misty at first, then a deluge. Now the sun is out, and the whole energy of the day is different. The people I pass on the street are walking with their heads up, acknowledging each other with smiles or nods. The plants are greener, birds singing. It all feels lighter.
This is the energy of the Star, cleansing stress and trauma and reacquainting us with peace, joy, and life.
Today we're invited to let water cleanse and refresh us, whether that's drinking fresh water, swimming, taking a bath, or watching the rain. Water is physically calming and cleansing, and it works that way in our energy, too. It's one of the simplest and most effective ways of clearing. If anything is bothering you, give it to the water, and envision stress rinsing away. You'll feel lighter and clearer afterward.
Happy Friday, hope you all get to relax this weekend.
I literally just filled my bathtub, but felt drawn to pull a card for all of us first. I'm listening, universe!
Daily Tarot: Justice
We're being asked to take a step back and observe what's going on. Just notice. No judging anything as good or bad, no opinions about what should be happening in the future, no blame for anything that happened in the past.
.
What's here is here for a reason, but now is not the time to search for the reason. We're invited to see what just is. Notice what's happening, notice your reaction to it. We're invited to trust that we're in the right place, and we'll see the underlying "why" when the time is right.
.
I definitely didn't expect this card today. Before drawing today's card, I was thinking about all of the wands cards I've pulled in the last few weeks, and the messages that have been coming through about surrendering control. I guess I expected more wands, or The Hanged Man.
.
But Justice is the perfect card for today, and it feels like we've been building to this point. In all of the ways we seek to control our lives, the most prevalent is the way we reach for control with our minds. We put a label on something as good or bad so easily. Whether it's our commute, our coffee, our colleagues, we judge, label, compare. But there is no good or bad. There are just events and experiences. Those labels limit our perception of what's really happening. Coming to the present moment in a neutral way, we begin to open ourselves to understanding what's happening, and the reasons why it's happening. We open up for that wisdom to drop in.
.
The refrain in my head here is: justice just is. I'm dropping my judgements about how that phrase sounds, noticing how I want to edit it out, and leaving it.
Daily Tarot: 9 of Wands
Check yourself before you wreck yourself, bbs. Because you are way too precious to burn out.
.
Burnout is not a foregone conclusion. This is the time to ask for help. Delegate tasks. Prioritize. Do one thing at a time.
.
Sometimes the scariest thing is not being in total control. It's super vulnerable, and it feels safer to try to do it all, be perfect, be in control. But if your human mind is controlling everything, there's no room for serendipity. If you loosen your grip a little, you make space for things to line up even better than you can plan.
.
The lovely and wise @stefaniecaponi reads this card with an element of looking back at your experiences, seeing how far you've come. (Correct me if I'm misquoting you, Stef!) And I love that facet of this card combined with letting go of control. You're not here by accident, you have put in a lot of work to get where you are. That's not going to disappear if you ease up for a minute.

Daily Tarot: 8 of Swords
Here's how powerful you are:
You've created a fence around yourself, made simply out of beliefs. You are so powerful that when you believe something, you bring it into existence.
The 8 of Swords isn't here to judge you or tell you what you should or shouldn't do. It's neutral. It comes up when you're feeling stuck, and it very helpfully shows you the sticking points.
.
I find that when I get this card, it's because I'm afraid of my power, so I make up all kinds of rational, logical, reasons why I can't own my power. It feels easier to stay small, because I know how to do that.
.
If you can cage in your power just with beliefs, what can you do when you believe in your own power? When you put your mind in service of your spirit?
.
Today let's look at the way we fence our self in with "reasons." When you look at your limiting beliefs, they lose power and start to dissolve so that you can move forward.
.
A good exercise here (and one I'm doing today), is to write down 8 reasons you can't do what you truly want. Then go back through the list, and change each one into an affirmation. This pulls back your power, and lets you re-direct it to creating what you actually want. Think of these 8 beliefs as the 8 swords on this card, and with each affirmation, you pull a sword out of the ground.
.
Here's one of mine. Belief: I can't do this because people will think I'm weird. Affirmation: I am joyously open about who I am, and I approve of myself.
.
There are a lot of ways of working with feeling stuck, and with the 8 of Swords, this is just one that came through today. What do you like to do when you're in this situation?
Daily Tarot: The Chariot
In order to approach the spiritual, we have to be pretty solid on the material plane. It's really hard to think about eternity when you're in survival mode, trying to meet your basic needs. But you made it! You're thriving, and you're ready for the next big stage. Take a moment to appreciate how far you've come.
When The Chariot shows up, it's a reminder that you have more than enough to survive, and you've checked off all the boxes on the material success list. Now it's time to go deeper. It's time to take care of your spirit. If there's something that feeds your soul and puts more kindness into the world, do it today. This is where the really wild journey starts!
.
.
This card is from a Marseilles tarot deck I found this morning at the flea market. It was right next to a pewter USS Enterprise model, because it was totally meant for me (or some other space witch). I bought it from the original owner, who used it in the early 70s. He thanked the cards for their time with him and I promised to give them a good home. I'm so excited to get to know this beautiful deck!
Daily Tarot: Page of Wands
Ground your fire with play. Passion and ambition are amazing, but you can hold your fire lightly, like an instrument, not a weapon. A playful approach keeps you in the present moment rather than trying to play only to win or plotting five moves down the line, which is another Wands approach. There's no benefit to you right now in trying to force anything to happen or pushing to get your way. The Page of Wands is a wild sapling, bursting up from the ground any old place, not a precisely planted and manicured topiary. Anytime today you feel your fire heading toward force, pull it back to the present. Make a game of it, notice one thing you're picking up from each of your senses. This is a time of new growth, leave room for the unexpected.
Daily Tarot: 6 of Wands
After pulling the 4 and 5 of Wands earlier this week, it feels right to see the 6. This is a realignment of energy after a clash, and it feels like rising up. It's being able to hold the experience of being seen and praised. Because you have come a long way, and you are worthy of recognition! Let this feeling of lightness carry you through the day.
Not every reading needs to be intense - sometimes we just need to come up for air. I think we're all ready for this after some intense work this week.

Daily Tarot: 4 of Wands
There's an "if you build it they will come" aspect to the 4 of wands. If you want joy (or love, skill, baseball ghosts, etc), you have to make a container for it in your time and space. Set the time, go to the place, set an intention for what will happen there. Then it will happen. It's simple but not easy.
.
When I pulled the 4 of wands this morning, it was reversed. That usually means we're invited to do a little work to turn the card right-side-up. I've been experiencing a lot of worry and stress lately, and honestly haven't felt like joy or celebration are even possible. Even though I know that's not true, my emotions were telling me that story. Feeling isn't fact, and I'm grateful to have learned that from my teachers Lindsay Mack of @wildsoulhealing and Michelle Sinnette. So what I'm practicing today is container-setting for my truth, that joy is available in every moment.
.
This afternoon I scheduled myself a break to get outside. I walked around the block holding this card in my hand, feeling my way through the message, when I spotted something orange in the gutter. A flat of nasturtiums! A synchronous bright spot in the sludge. I'm still feeling the stress, but now it's joined by some joy and humor. Thank you, universe.
.
I'm not sharing this anecdote to provide a generic "everything sucked but this one pretty moment made it all better" story. More like, we can experience multiple emotions at once, and we don't have to judge any experience as good or bad. We can choose how we respond. I'm learning this every day. And whatever I can learn, I'm here to share. So if this calls to you, practice creating containers for joy today, and hmu if you want to talk about that or if you found any cool trash.
.
For more insight into this card, another one of my amazing teachers, Jeff Hinshaw @brooklyntarot pulled it yesterday, go read his post. 💛
Daily Tarot: 2 of Cups
In the 2 of Cups, the mirror of a relationship helps develop our capacity for love. Sometimes you don't know what's going on within you until you see it reflected by another person. I believe that a big part of healing is in feeling seen for who you are. When you're not putting energy into hiding or editing or controlling yourself, that frees you up to put energy into love, joy, and creativity. So today, see and be seen, because witnessing another person without judgement is an amazing way to show love.
Daily Tarot: The Magician
In case you forgot, and we all do sometimes, you are a powerful magical being with the ability to channel ideas from the ether and into physical existence.
I certainly forgot this today, and got into a place of maybe-I-can't. We truly always have the Magician's creative power inside us, even when we feel like we don't. Sometimes a card pops up because we need its medicine, and we have to do a little work to meet it.
This is a good time to get lots of ideas down, even if they're rough. No judging yourself, just putting pen to paper. There's a potential waiting to become real, and you're invited to be the channel. That's the Magician's real work: showing up to the altar, picking up the tools, giving form to whatever comes through.

Full Moon in Capricorn
Hey it's FULL MOON IN CAPYBARA!
Or Capricorn or whatever goat-fish is local to you.
I unapologetically am reusing this joke and picture from the Cap new moon 6 months ago because we are all reaching the peak of a cycle started then, a cycle of evolution in our work and physical presence in the world. What has sprung out of your earnest hard work this year? How have you shown up consistently in your life? How does your work ground you with joy and play? You're at the top of this cycle and can look around and see what's gotten you here before continuing on. This is a point of both clarity and hands-on action. I think this full moon will actually really feel great for a lot of people, because we love to feel like we can see where we're going and what to do to get there. Today you can see practical course corrections, next steps, and concrete to-do lists.
This full moon also brings together Cap's steady earth with Cancer's intuitive water. In the past few weeks, I've been getting messages about trusting the body's wisdom. We're now at a point where our bodies' messages are strong and clear. Today is a great time to be actively, generously kind to your body -- like your body is a beloved child. Hug yourself, give yourself healthy treats, take yourself out to play. And ask your body for wisdom about what you do in your daily life, like your work, job, food, sleep, play, practices. Just intend to feel the answer in your body and notice what physical sensations come through, then journal it out. Nbd if you're not sure what you're sensing, make it up and journal anyway.
May your full moon be full of good work and play and clarity. And maybe some capybara videos for inspiration.
